Cardamom understory in the Idukki highlands

Rooted in Kattapana.
Built for export.

From India's premier cardamom district — sourced, graded and shipped to B2B buyers worldwide.

Our story

Where the highlands meet the export market.

Kattapana sits at the southern edge of Idukki district, where the Western Ghats rise sharply and the air carries cardamom all year long.

Idukki accounts for the majority of India’s green cardamom output, and Kattapana is its heartland. The elevation, rainfall pattern and mineral-rich soil here produce pods with the dense aroma and bright colour that export markets pay a premium for. Alham Spices sources, grades and supplies green cardamom and companion spices directly from this district — to wholesale buyers, food manufacturers and importers across the Gulf, South Asia and beyond.

Every lot is FSSAI-certified, graded to buyer specification, and dispatched from our facility in Kattapana with full traceability to its point of origin in the Idukki highlands. The phone is answered by the people who handle your order.

The district

Why Idukki cardamom commands a premium.

01

Elevation

700+ metres above sea level. Cool nights slow the plant; the result is a dense, oil-rich pod with a resinous aroma that sets it apart from plains-grown cardamom.

02

Rainfall

Monsoon-fed and canopy-shaded — Idukki’s highland terrain provides the sustained humidity that green cardamom needs through the growing season.

03

Grading

Every lot is sorted by pod diameter and colour — Jumbo to Baby, Extra Green to Green — so buyers receive exactly the calibre they specify.

04

Traceability

FSSAI-certified, with full traceability to origin in the Idukki highlands — no mystery blends, no unknown sources.

The terrain

What 700 metres does to a pod.

Elevation is everything in cardamom. Cool nights slow the plant; monsoon air keeps the canopy damp; mineral, free-draining soil concentrates the oil.

Highland cardamom is shade-grown beneath the original forest canopy — never cleared, never full-sun. It is hand-picked green, pod by pod, across a long season. The result is the volatile-oil content and bright colour that differentiate Idukki cardamom on the global market.
